NEET UG is a single three-hour-twenty-minute paper of 180 questions drawn from Physics, Chemistry and Biology, marked +4 / -1, with rank decided by a normalised percentile across lakhs of candidates. Where learners get stuck
- Treating high attempt count as the goal and attempting 175+ questions with 78% accuracy
- Students are trained by school exams where every blank is a lost mark and there is no penalty. Under -1 marking, a 60% guess rate is score-negative, and the arithmetic of attempts x accuracy is rarely worked out explicitly, so the habit of 'attempt everything' survives into mocks.
- Using coaching modules or reference books as the primary source and NCERT as a 'later revision' text
- Thick modules feel more rigorous and give more question variety, so they crowd out the base text. But a large share of NEET items — especially in Biology and Inorganic Chemistry — restate NCERT sentences directly, so the student meets the phrasing for the first time in the exam hall.
- Taking mock tests but only recording the score, then moving on to the next paper
- Analysing a paper takes longer than sitting it and produces no visible progress marker, so it gets skipped. Without an error log classifying each mistake by cause, the same chapter and the same reading error repeat across ten mocks.
- Believing Class 11 material can be left until the final revision phase
- Class 12 board pressure makes current-year content feel urgent. Roughly half the paper comes from Class 11, and unrevised content from 12-18 months earlier behaves like content never studied.
What a session looks like
A typical session starts with your current position — a recent mock score, a chapter list you have finished, or how many months remain — and works on one decision from there. That might mean walking through your last full-length paper question by question to classify the losses, redesigning a week's timetable so that all three subjects and one revision slot appear every day, or rehearsing an attempt strategy out loud: which subject you open with, when you flag and move on, how you use the final pass. Questions
- How many hours a day should a NEET aspirant study?
- There is no single number that fits a school-going Class 12 student and a full-time dropper. Sessions work backwards from your available hours, syllabus remaining and target score to produce a timetable you can actually hold for months, and revisit it when it slips.
- Should I attempt all 180 questions in NEET?
- Only if your accuracy supports it. With -1 for wrong answers, four confident attempts beat six shaky ones. Sessions use your own mock data to find the attempt count and per-subject accuracy that maximise your score, then rehearse the leave-it decision.
- Is NCERT enough for NEET?
- For Biology and Inorganic Chemistry it is the primary source and needs to be read closely rather than skimmed; Physics and numerical Chemistry need additional problem practice. Sessions cover how to read NCERT actively — diagrams, tables, exceptions — and where to supplement.
- When should I start giving full-length mock tests?
- Usually once a substantial part of both years' syllabus is covered, then weekly and increasing in the final months. What matters more than the count is the analysis afterwards, which is what most sessions on this topic spend their time on.
