NEET Physics is the section that most medical aspirants lose marks in, not because the physics is unusually hard, but because 45 questions have to be read, set up and solved accurately in roughly 45-50 minutes with negative marking on every wrong answer. This topic covers the Class 11 and 12 NCERT physics syllabus as NTA tests it: mechanics, thermodynamics and kinetic theory, oscillations and waves, electrostatics and current electricity, magnetism and EMI/AC, optics, and modern physics with semiconductors. Sessions are one-on-one and spoken, so the emphasis is on saying out loud how you would set a problem up before you touch the algebra.

Where learners get stuck

Applying kinematic equations like v = u + at to situations where acceleration is not constant
Students memorise the three equations in Class 11 before meeting variable acceleration, so when a question gives a = kt or a velocity-dependent retardation they reach for the familiar formula instead of integrating. NEET regularly sets one question that punishes exactly this.
Confusing what is held constant when a dielectric slab is inserted into a capacitor
The battery-connected case (V constant, Q and energy increase) and the isolated case (Q constant, V and energy fall) use the same formulae, so learners memorise one outcome and apply it to both. The question wording differs by a single clause, which is easy to skim past under time pressure.
Getting sign errors in mirror and lens problems, especially with virtual objects or combinations
The Cartesian convention is taught as a rule to memorise rather than a coordinate system, so students apply signs to the final answer instead of to every substituted quantity, and they lose track when the image of the first lens becomes the object for the second.
Assuming magnetic force can change a charged particle's speed or do work on it
Force is intuitively linked to speeding things up, and the perpendicularity of F = qv x B is stated once and then forgotten. It surfaces in cyclotron, velocity selector and helical-path questions where the answer depends on speed being unchanged.

What a session looks like

Sessions run as spoken back-and-forth. You bring a question or a chapter, describe the setup, and work through it aloud while the tutor probes the step you glossed over: which frame you chose, what sign you assigned, whether the formula you invoked has the conditions it needs. Because there is no shared screen for handwriting, diagrams are described in words, which is itself useful practice for the mental modelling NEET demands. Typical sessions mix one or two full-length problems with rapid-fire conceptual checks and timed single-question drills. Bring your NCERT and any previous-year question you got wrong.

Helpful to know first

  • Class 10 algebra: quadratic equations, simultaneous equations, ratio and proportion, and confident manipulation of formulae with several symbols
  • Trigonometry to the level of resolving vectors, sine and cosine rules, and small-angle approximations
  • Basic differentiation and integration of polynomials and standard functions, enough for kinematics, work-energy and flux problems
  • Vector addition, dot and cross products, and the right-hand rule
  • Familiarity with the NCERT Class 11 and 12 Physics chapters, at least at a first-reading level

Questions

How many questions is Physics in NEET and how much time should I spend on it?
Physics carries 45 questions of 4 marks each, 180 of the 720 total marks, with 1 mark deducted for each wrong answer. Most successful candidates budget 45-55 minutes of the 180-minute paper for Physics. Always check the current NTA information bulletin, since the paper pattern has been revised in recent years.
Is NCERT enough for NEET Physics?
NCERT defines the syllabus and its derivations, graphs and worked examples appear directly in questions, but NCERT alone does not provide enough numerical practice for the speed required. Most students pair NCERT theory with previous-year NEET papers and one problem book. Sessions can work through either.
My child scores well in Biology but keeps getting 40-60 in Physics. What is going wrong?
Usually one of three things: chapters are being read rather than problems being solved, mistakes are being corrected without diagnosing whether they were conceptual, algebraic or careless, and attempt strategy is absent so time is sunk into unsolvable questions. Sessions work on the diagnosis first by having the student narrate their reasoning aloud.
Which chapters carry the most weight in NEET Physics?
Across recent papers, mechanics (kinematics, laws of motion, work-energy, rotation, gravitation) and electrodynamics (electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, EMI and AC) together account for the majority of questions, with modern physics and semiconductors, optics, and thermodynamics making up most of the rest. Weightage shifts year to year, so no chapter in the syllabus is safe to drop.
